KRA SUMMER BBQ 2017 This July KRA celebrated a year of hard work at our first annual Summer barbecue. The whole team spent the weekend on the Sunshine Coast with great food, great company and perfect weather! The day was spent luxuriating in the sun, swimming in the ocean and enjoying home made baby-back ribs and delicious salads, desserts and appetizers. We all returned to work on Monday feeling well fed and well rested. We look forward to making this an annual event where we have the opportunity to kick-back and enjoy each others company outside of the office.
NEW ASSOCIATES We are delighted to announce two new Associates at KRA, Sylvie Gagnon, Architect AIBC, MRAIC and Julie Verville, Architect AIBC, AAA, LEED AP, BD+C. They will join Collin Truong and Kirsten Reite as key members of a core team of leaders, who will help shape the future of the firm. SYLVIE GAGNON Sylvie and Kirsten have known each other for over 10 years as peers in healthcare design. Finally, in 2015 to our delight, Sylvie decided to join KRA. Sylvie has distinguished herself as a respected leader in healthcare design. She is a talented designer, who works closely with clinical users, building operators and consultants to achieve highly successful projects. Sylvie is currently managing several healthcare projects, including the Centre of Excellence in Surgical Innovation at Vancouver General Hospital and the Carlile Youth Concurrent Disorders Centre (CYCDC), located at Lions Gate Hospital’s HOpe Centre. CYCDC is a unique youth mental health project, as it is the only one of its kind in British Columbia. As a new Associate, Sylvie will continue to manage our healthcare design projects working closely with Kirsten to further expand our Healthcare practice. JULIE VERVILLE Julie and Kirsten worked together for over 5 years on the recently completed $127M Chinook Regional Hospital Redevelopment Project in Lethbridge, Alberta. Julie is a talented multifaceted architect, who has a broad range of experience in many building types from healthcare, education, commercial, office and interiors. She has strong design skills, an ability to manage complex projects of any size, excellent communication skills, and an ability to forge deep and lasting relationships with both consultants and clients. Julie’s interests lie in expanding KRA’s growing Commercial practice in new development and adaptive reuse for office and interior projects, as well as education. Julie is currently working on the new Trinity Western University Learning Commons, which will create a new innovative space for the students, faculty and staff. She is also working on the new office for Ecojustice, Canada’s only national environmental law charity. As a new Associate Julie will work closely with Kirsten to establish and grow our expertise in these areas of practice.
OUR NEW BOARDROOM LIGHT IS HERE! After much anticipation our boardroom light has been installed! The finished product is comprised of a faceted brushed and anodized aluminum shade with a white perforated interior. The light source is concealed in a partially frosted glass tube. The shade and tube are suspended with aircraft cable which runs parallel to a woven electrical cable. A big thanks to Greg Papove and his partner, Claire Balderston, for their work on the lamp. We are very pleased with the outcome of our design competition. Everyone had fun and it was a rewarding experience to see the the project realized. We plan to do another design competition soon — so stay tuned to see what our team members come up with next!
