In 2014, KRA was retained to complete a renovation of the existing building at 704 Alexander in Vancouver’s Railtown district. The project’s partnership between KRA and Bon Constructors allowed for a great deal of flexibility, collaboration and integration during both design and construction.

The project is an excellent example of building transformation on a very tight budget. Work included demolition of the interior space to create space for interior office/retail and manufacturing, enhancements to the existing mezzanine to conform to code requirements, and a fresh new façade.

The building façade was updated with simplicity, cost effectiveness, beauty, and attention to detail in mind. This included a custom-made, cost-effective zinc metal panel cladding system, operable aluminum storefront windows and doors, a fresh coat of paint, and a new steel and glass canopy.

Special attention was given to the building’s interior circulation. The main stairwell was given an upgrade to create a memorable entrance for the upstairs unit of the building, and new guardrails and pendant lighting were installed.
