The Fraser Health Authority retained KRA in 2018 to complete the redevelopment of Burnaby Hospital. Scope included enhancing the main entrance, developing a Community Health Services program nearby, and creating a new Mental Health and Substance Use zone in the Emergency Department. In addition, the laboratory department, health records, library, patient washrooms, and waiting areas were upgraded.

KRA looked to an environment that felt relaxed and homelike while prioritizing longevity. The team incorporated custom millwork benches, carefully planned detailing, tactile finishes, modern wood tones, soothing colour palettes, and plenty of graphics and elements that connect the indoors with the outdoors to create a sense of place that reminds the patients that they are close to home.

The result is an environment that instills in the patients a confidence and trust in the quality of care that they can expect at Burnaby Hospital.
